Bobby's Burger Palace - College Park, MD

What a storm! I hope everyone is safe because Sandy was quite destructive, but thankfully our part of Rockville wasn't affected much. Just a few hours without power.

So we haven't started our 'wedding' diet yet, so I'll just continue to write about fattie places like Bobby's Burger Palace. The Fi (I guess that's his new name? Let's test it out.) visited the University of Maryland location. We met at UMCP, and things have changed. We never had nice buildings and restaurants like this when we were there! I'm not that bitter though...

The name is self-explanatory - they serve burgers. Gourmet ones created by Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay to be exact. The interior is bright with warm lighting. It's filled with bar seating/communal tables and very comfortable chairs that spin! It's a casual place where you order/pay at a register, they give you a number, and they bring food out to wherever you are sitting.

Many of the burgers are named after cities and characterized by a food that represents them. For example: The Fi ordered The Philadelphia Burger is topped with Provolone Cheese, Griddled Onions and Hot Peppers ($7.75). He thought it was good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

If you're not in the mood for a burger, they offer sandwiches, salads, sides, milkshakes and other beverages. Also, if you don't eat beef, you can substitute the beef patty with turkey or chicken breast.

I wanted a flavor explosion so I ordered the Bobby Blue Burger with Blue Cheese, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato $7.75), and it wasn't as pungent as I was hoping. Again, it was an ok burger, but nothing particularly special. Ray's Hell Burger's equivalent is much better.

I love Sweet Potato Fries ($3) and these came with a Honey Mustard Horseradish Sauce which was awesome.

If you like dipping sauces, they have a variety including Jalapeño Hot Sauce, Chipotle Ketchup, Burger Sauce, and Barbecue. Sadly none of them really stuck out for me.Overall, we weren't wowed. So if we were visiting our Alma Matar again, we'd probably stop by Cluck U. However, I will say their service was impressive. We weren't there for long, but 3 different times someone would check on us. Pretty nice!

A Wonderful Story: God's Hand at Work

To contact us Click HERE

Our friends had a successful court appearance, but only today did "mom" get a chance to tell us via blog about the details. Their story makes it abundantly clear that God answers prayer, often in ways far more blessed than we dare to hope. I trust you will take this opportunity to read their story and thank God for what He has done in their family and for the little boy who is now part of their family.

They cannot claim their new son until August 3, according to local law. I assume they will be returning to the USA soon thereafter. Be in prayer for their trip and for the inevitable challenges that their new son will bring to their home.

Our Friends' Adoption: An Update

To contact us Click HERE

This summer friends of ours went to Russia and adopted a little boy, now four years old, with Down's Syndrome. Today "mom" updated her blog with uplifting photos of how well their new son is doing here in America. You can read about it here.

Of course, there are still a lot of challenges (take language, for example, and health), but it is a great blessing to see the willingness they have to cherish and raise up this little boy. Our prayers and encouragement go out to them.

Why I'm Voting for Rick Santorum in the SC Primary

To contact us Click HERE

Tomorrow, in the South Carolina GOP Presidential Preferenceprimary, I will be voting for Rick Santorum. Here’s why.
I need to start out by saying that I haven’t been totallythrilled with any of the four remaining candidates.  All of them have obvious weaknesses ofcharacter and/or policy which will make their race against Obama less of a lockthan it ought to be.  The Republican Partyneeds a leader of the Reagan type, who, like him in 1980, would win 40+ statesand carry a mandate with him to Washington. But since we have four remaining candidates from whom to choose, andsince any of them will be an improvement over the current president, I mustchoose from among them.
Rick Santorum, on the whole, represents my views the mostconsistently.  He has been consistentlyand passionately pro-life, and wrote the bill that ended partial birthabortion.  On social issues, he and I areof one voice.  He is also a firm believerin the Second Amendment (The NRA rates him A+). He opposed TARP, voted against McCain-Feingold and Frank-Dodd, andreceives low ratings from both the ACLU and the AFL-CIO.  While I am concerned about the trouncing hetook in the 2006 Pennsylvania Senate race (and, for that matter, the trouncinghe may get here in SC tomorrow, if the polls are valid), he is moredemonstrably opposed to Obama than either Romney or Gingrich.  His biggest liability in my eyes is that hedoes not come across as a leader.
Newt Gingrich, at the moment, would be my secondchoice.  I agree with him on mostissues—but he occasionally throws one out there that makes me scratch myhead.  His personal character history isa serious problem and, even if he has sincerely repented and stays on the righttrack, will be a detriment in the race. (Obama, for all his flaws, has no hint of marital infidelity.)  I am also concerned that his ego may become aliability.
Mitt Romney seems to be a conservative now, but my gut justdoesn’t like the fact that he wasn’t while he was the governor ofMassachusetts.  I think he can be a greatexecutive, and if he is the GOP nominee, I will vote for him in November.  But for now, I’m going with the most consistentconservative.
Ron Paul is problematic. His voting record is often meritorious and often puzzling.  The ACLU rates him pretty favorably—that's aproblem.  His vicious and untrue attackads concerning Santorum (being shown adnauseam this week on SC TV stations) trouble me.  His foreign policy ideas are dangerous to thefuture of our country.
Please educate yourself on the candidates and then take theopportunity to vote.

An Update on our Friends' Adoption!

Friends of ours adopted a 3½-year-old boy with Down's Syndrome from Eastern Europe last summer (see their blog here).  They have now had the boy in their home for six months.  Their story has been featured on a local TV station and I'm sure many have viewed their blog.  In short, their story not only testifies of God's love working through individuals, but also to the value of every individual soul—no matter the limitations of the physical body.

Six months later, there are still trials and struggles, but there has been both remarkable progress and great blessings.  The work that God has allowed them to be a part of has now reached all the way back to Russia, and we are so grateful for it!  I trust you will take the time to read about it here.

Florida Vehicle History Report! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

What's the best motorcycle polish you've ever used? I'm certain this question has been asked by thousands if not millions of guys, and some gals, interested in making their bike look super. I know I've used lots of polishes and waxes, some good, some bad. But I've never used a polish as versatile and easy to use as protectall polish, wax and treatment. Yes, I know you're thinking the Meguiar's family of car care products are the best! And for cars and trucks you may have it right. But for motorcycles with a mix of finishes including metal and plastic, nothing comes close to the all-in-one ease-of-use performance of protectall.

What I said. It is not outcome that the actual about Florida Vehicle History Report. You check out this article for info on that need to know is Florida Vehicle History Report.

How is Motorcycle Polish & Wax - The Best Motorcycle Polish You'll Ever Use

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Florida Vehicle History Report.

I prefer the aerosol cans and use both the 13.5 oz. And 6 oz. Sizes religiously. The big can is positioned in the garage ready for special jobs around the home. And the conveniently sized 6 oz. Can is on the bike. I mentioned earlier that protectall polishes all surfaces. On my bike, about the only thing I don't treat is rubber. Beyond that - everything is game. In fact, you don't want to use anything but protectall on plastic surfaces like windshields. Some people are fanatical about it like my utah biking buddy, hal. Protectall is all that touches his windshield.

Using the product is easy. I quote from the protectall site, "the application is as quick and easy as wipe on, wipe dry and it requires no tedious detailing around lettering and rubber molding." Do I hear an amen? All you do is spray it on [and you don't need to use much] spread it around with a clean, soft terrycloth towel or better yet micro-fiber towel, and then buff or wipe dry. No fuss! No muss! Protectall literally does it all. It removes dirt, grime, grease, road-hardened bugs and road film, and leaves a showroom Carnauba wax shine that fellow bikers will envy. Protectall was a mainstay on our recent road trip from Boston, ma to Boca Grande, Fl.

I applied Protectall each morning to clean and polish my windshield, faring, gas tank and saddlebags. The task took just 10 minutes and the bike looked great the rest of the day. And Protectall's protection lasted. We hit a squall or two coming through the Carolinas and Georgia, and all I had to do to return the bike to its morning luster was a few swipes with the towel. How easy is that! I mentioned earlier that I keep a large can in the garage for jobs around the home. Well, Protectall hasn't lasted long in the garage. We bought stainless appliances for our kitchen several years ago, and i've watched my wife labor to keep them looking good. She was gone the other day, and I thought, "dang, I wonder what Protectall would do?" So I grabbed the can and in minutes had the fridge, dish washer and range looking brand-spanking new. I was amazed how easy they were to polish with protectall and how impressive they looked. Needless to say, I scored points with my sweetheart.

To sum it up, protectall is my 'detail kit' in a can. I use it on virtually every surface on my bike. That's why it's one of my favorites, it's with us wherever we ride, and keeps my bike looking great. I wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend it to you. Pass-on the good word - you won't be sorry.

Do you know about - Deciphering Your Car's VIN

Vin Check ! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

As an automobile owner, it can many times be helpful to determine when exactly your car was made, or where, or with what options or parts. Much and sometimes all of this info can be obtained from a number that is all over your car... its VIN. Every car manufactured since 1980 must be encoded with a unique VIN that provides a wealth of information about your car.

What I said. It is not outcome that the true about Vin Check . You read this article for information on an individual want to know is Vin Check .

How is Deciphering Your Car's VIN

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Vin Check .

Your VIN number can be found on many parts on your car, all with it displayed under the windshield on the lower left, under the hood, and in door jambs. Many manufacturers print it on every body panel. This is very helpful in determining whether you car is as marketed, whether it has had any body damage with replacement parts etc. To decipher the code, you will need to get your VIN, and break it down as follows.

Digits 1-3: This is the Make and Model of your vehicle
Digits 4-8: This is used to determine features or sub-models of your specific model
Digit 9: This is a check digit that is used to determine if the other digits have been faked.
Digit 10: This is the model year of the vehicle. Note, this is not necessarily the year of manufacture
Digit 11: This shows where the model was assembled
Digits 12-17: This is essentially the serial number, or chassis number for the model. Each model produced by the manufacturer will have a unique sequential number.

Due to the ability to easily confuse letters and numbers, a VIN cannot include the letters I, O or Q.

Determining the Make, Year, and Chassis

The first digit digit of the make determines country of manufacture. 1 or 4 for USA, 2 for Canada, 3 for Mexico, W for Germany. The second digit is the manufacturer. A for Audi, B for BMW, D for Mercedes, V for Volkswagen, P for Porsche.

The next important piece to glean is the model year. This is found in digit 10. Starting in 1980, the letter A, for 81 letter B and so on. Remember that I, O, Q are not used. Year 2000 was letter Y, and in 2001, it started back over with a 1, 2002 was 2 etc. The model year 2010 starts it all back over with an A. Finally, you can refer to the digits 12-17 for chassis number. Many times manufacturers will notate part changes mid model year, and they will use the chassis number to designate the split.

For a further detailed breakdown of your vehicles VIN, I highly recommend checking out the Wikipedia page on VIN. Just go to Wikipedia, and search on VIN. It does into detail on all manufacturers, detailed information on the calculation of the check digits, detailed charts on the years, manufacturers codes etc. Hopefully you found this article helpful as a high level overview of your vehicles VIN.

Mark's Duck House - Falls Church, VA

Ah dim sum. I don't get to have it often because the bf doesn't like small dishes...pshhh! Well that's what friends are for! One of my friends took me to Mark's Duck House - her favorite spot for Sunday dim sum. The restaurant has been around for over 20 years serving Hong Kong-style cuisine. As their name suggests, they are known for their Peking Duck. However, we didn't get a chance to try it.
Located in a shopping center, there is plenty of free parking, but it can get crowded.

This place is smaller than other restaurants that offer dim sum, so it was PACKED! We took a number when we got through the crowd waiting by the door.

They offered many of the same dishes I'm used to seeing as well as some different items. Sorry guys, but I don't have prices for any of these items because they were in Chinese. All dishes are between $2.50 - $7.50 though.

1. Pan-Fried Chives Dumpling - Out of all the dumplings, this was my favorite.
2. Shrimp and Pork Dumpling (Shiu Mai)
3. Shrimp and Pork Dumpling
4. Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gao)

5. Fried Taro Dumpling - One of my favorite dishes when I have dim sum.
6. Shrimp Noodle Crepe - Best noodle crepe I've tried.
7. Lemongrass and Ginger Oyster - Oyster by itself was the size of my palm.
8. Stuffed Crab Claw - I broke my chopstick trying to cut this. It was massive!
Service was very fast with the carts, they constantly filled our water glasses, replaced my broken chopstick and reminded me that I forgot my leftovers. I thought they were great! Food was on point. Now I just need more dim sum buddies!

Florida Vin Search! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

While I am a firm believer in fate, destiny, and karma, not everybody is willing to trust in "the stars" to determine their future. You may have wondered to yourself, "What is my chance of finding a mate?" Well, there are various statistics to support the answer to that question, and I have listed several of them below. You may be surprised at some of them, especially the number of people that use online dating.

What I said. It isn't outcome that the real about Florida Vin Search. You look at this article for information on that wish to know is Florida Vin Search.

How is Top 10 Dating Statistics Everyone Should Know

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Florida Vin Search.

1. 40 million Americans use online dating services. That's about 40% of the adult American single population. It's not just a fad anymore, and it just might be your ticket to finding happiness.

2. 44% of the adult American population is single. That's over 100 million people, so your odds are actually much better than you think.

3. On average, there are 86 single men to every 100 single women in America. So, the odds are slightly in favor of men finding a mate. This ratio is a bit better in the Southwest, and in warmer climates such as Texas, Florida, and California, the ratio in some cities actually favors the women.

4. 50% of New York state adults are unmarried, making it the best state for single people. Washington, D.C. actually boasts a 70% single rate, making it the best area (although not a state) for single people.

The states with the worst ratios are Idaho and Utah, with 40% and 41% single, respectively.

5. 51% percent of single people surveyed say that flattery is the best way to attract someone. According to Are You Normal About Sex, Love, and Relationships? 25% also say to use touching as a way to flirt is very effective, and a surprising 23% say that the best way to let someone know you're interested in them is the old schoolyard method of passing word through a friend.

6. Profiles with photos get over twice as many responses. According to economists at MIT and University of Chicago, profiles with photos get over twice as many emails as profiles without them. Sounds like a good enough reason to me to go ahead and put that photo out there on your profile.

7. You have 15 minutes to make a first impression - if you're a woman, that is. If you're a man, you have a little more cushion. Women usually take about an hour to decide if you're going to have a second date.

8. #1 relationship argument is over money - according to a poll by the University of Denver. So, don't feel too bad if you can't agree about who's paying for the date. It's rather common, and not exactly a foretelling of things to come.

9. 48% of breakups in online relationships occur through email. It may seem rude or insensitive, but this is the world we live in, especially in the setting of an online relationship.

10. Only 2% of men find relationships from a barstool. This number only goes up to 9% for women. So, get down off that barstool, and try your luck somewhere else, such as online, or through a network of friends, where 63% of married couples claim to have found their mates, according to the book Sex in America: A Definitive Survey by Robert T. Michael.

Do you know about - New Federal Loan Modification Rules To Now Work With Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Laws

Florida Lemon Laws Used Cars! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

Beginning on June 1, 2010, new HAMP rule changes will now make it possible to seek mortgage modification while in an active bankruptcy case. Under existing U.S. Treasury rules, mortgage lenders are not required to consider modifications under the federal government's Making Home Affordable Program (HAMP) while a homeowner is in an active bankruptcy case; however, these rules are about to change and they will prevent lenders from saying no to mortgage modification during bankruptcy cases.

How is New Federal Loan Modification Rules To Now Work With Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Laws

This will make it much easier for homeowners to seek modification of their mortgages and save their home while adjusting and discharging other debts in a single proceeding. The rules also allow use of the schedules filed in the bankruptcy case to be used as the modification application and other streamlined procedures that will make it easier to communicate with lenders. It also gives the homeowner the added protection of a Court Order approving loan modifications to prevent future mortgage problems caused by the mortgage company.

In the Orlando Division of the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court has also launched a Mortgage Mediation Program to bring mortgage lenders to the negotiation table and offers sanctions against mortgage lenders who refuse to participate. In most cases, the trial period may be waived by making mortgage payments through a Chapter 13 Trustee.

These new rules make Chapter 13 Bankruptcy a much better option to seek mortgage modification and stay other creditors at the same time. It can also allow for the "stripping off" of second mortgages, lowering car loan payments and minimal if any payment to unsecured credit card debts. A homeowner who files for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy to reorganize may emerge from the case with a modified first mortgage, a second mortgage that is gone forever and be otherwise debt free upon plan completion and discharge.

Finally a rule change to help the American Homeowner save their home. Most homeowners I meet with here in Central Florida need a mortgage modification and bankruptcy relief and now rules will make it easier to get both types of relief at the same time. I believe this will really give homeowners a better chance to save their homes and resolve other debt problems through Chapter 13.

To learn more about how these new HAMP rules and Bankruptcy Court Mediation in the Orlando Bankruptcy Court may help you, contact Mr. Baker.

Do I hear an amen?

Deciphering Your Car's VIN

Our friends had a successful court appearance, but only today did "mom" get a chance to tell us via blog about the details. Their story makes it abundantly clear that God answers prayer, often in ways far more blessed than we dare to hope. I trust you will take this opportunity to read their story and thank God for what He has done in their family and for the little boy who is now part of their family.

They cannot claim their new son until August 3, according to local law. I assume they will be returning to the USA soon thereafter. Be in prayer for their trip and for the inevitable challenges that their new son will bring to their home.

Thanksgiving

(From Alyssa)

Thanks especially to Jessica and Rachel's hard work organizing our feast, we actually enjoyed a pretty traditional Thanksgiving this year here in France. Having now celebrated three Thanksgivings outside the U.S., it seems that we actually try harder to carry on the traditions while living in a foreign land. We certainly miss family time (and football :)) but the other ingredients are here - thankfulness, friends, and culinary delights. :)
Sarah planned a story and crafts for the kids about thankfulness - creatively using her elementary school teacher skills Listening to the story Making pilgrim hats Micah modeling his pilgrim hat Thankful charts - all the kids are very thankful for their mommy and daddy and Jesus. Even the littlest ones drew pictures.  Ben and his buddy Josiah with their hats Maggie and Abi
John explained the story of Thanksgiving and did his best to incorporate all the nationalities represented at our feast into the story - he got a little stuck with Slovakia, though! (We have classmates from Holland, England, and Slovakia and of course included some French friends and professors at the feast.)
Carving the five enormous turkeys - too big for the ovens, even. McLaughlin's oven actually began to flame in the process of cooking one of these birds. Thankfully they remembered where the fire extinguisher was and quickly put out the fire before anyone (including the turkey) was hurt.
Everything tasted delicious and we enjoyed sharing this time together. We have so much to be thankful for this year - being all together in one place as McCropders again, Rachel passing her OB/Gyn boards, happy and healthy kids, safe travels through thousands of miles this past year, God's strength for learning a new language, and especially the provision of God of so many partners in this journey making it possible through prayer and support for us to continue on this path towards Burundi. Dieu vous bénisse (God bless you).
